The Winmau darts company is delighted to announce the signing of one of the biggest and most recognized names in world darts - two-time Lakeside World Champion: Ted 'The Count' Hankey.
The 41 year-old Telford based arrowsmith, who capped a stunning week of darts by lifting the prestigious Lakeside crown in January - nine years after his first victory, joins the company on an exclusive 5-year contract.
Ted - who throws a unique pencil-thin 14g dart, will be working closely with Winmau to help manufacture a new and improved variation on the darts, which will be available for the general public to buy later in the year.
This sponsorship deal, caps a great year for me' revealed Hankey 'It's also a massive boost to have a name like Winmau supporting me. It will be great to be using the new darts , and I will especially enjoy using them in the Winmau World Masters in September!’
Hankey - who recently announced his intention to compete in the ITV televised Grand Slam Of Darts, is one of the few players to have won the Lakeside title more than once and also holds the record of the quickest ever victory in the tournament's history - a 46 minute, 6-0, demolition of Ronnie Baxter in 2000.
Winmau Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack was delighted to have completed the deal to sign 'The Count', saying : 'On his day, Ted has few equals in the world of darts, he is a terrific player and a great personality on and off the oche. We are looking forward to working with Ted to create his new darts range and help him onto continued success’.
